Hello Team,

The following is an outline of an exciting day at your campus with Steve Johnson Racing including, his team, the $400,000 tractor trailer and, of course, U.S. Nationals Champion, Steve Johnson.

In short this day is about preparing the students for the day after graduation. Getting them to think about being professional and bringing their “A game” of work ethic to the table. We engage them with an exciting non branded racing video and some brief words on the business of racing and hiring employees. Then it’s right into showing them what employers look for in addition to hiring top students. The five tips via a power point on “marketing yourself” and reinforcing the instructor’s messages on attendance is most of our core message. After the class room, we move into phase 2 and the interaction part of our appearance.

The time we spend at your campus is like a carnival for the students! As they walk though the rig they will see:

·       Real race engines and the actual components

·       Clutch management and on-screen data retrieval

·       Tour of driver’s lounge

·       Watch and play PlayStation drag racing video game starring Steve

Outside they can see the bike and then race each other on a specially built reaction timer, just like at the races.  Any perfect reaction time wins a prize. One on one interaction with crew members is also a great thing as students ask questions about racing as well as a career path.

We call these visits, “Student Appreciation Day”.  Lauren and Jennifer at Steve Johnson Racing have developed this landscape with other campuses and schools in such places as Florida, New York, California, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Virginia and Georgia, just to name a few.

The following is an outline design to inform you more about the details of the visit.  Some goals here are to increase retention and motivate thoughts to more electives.

Two of many goals we have for these Student Appreciation Days

  • To give the students a look inside the workings of a professional race team while explaining the highs and lows of racing as well as a path to take after graduation on getting the right job and how to grasp self promotion.  That being said, this is not a racing push…this is a new experience and will keep them engaged in school and working for the diploma. Also, to have them take full advantage of all the electives that are made possible to them while attending your school.  Retention is key in keeping these students motivated and passionate about their futures.
  • To promote this event so any and all support teams, reps, career counselors or schools, that have students thinking about your school will bring or invite them to this event. This will be another motivating piece for the potential student to enroll. This has worked the night before the appearance, say as a dinner. This ‘after hours’ plan should be a great tool for the rep working with a commuter school.  With or without food, this allows the campus to be flexible with parent’s work schedules.

Here is what we are bringing as an experience to the “Student Appreciation day"

  • Our Tractor Trailer race rig will be open with 100% student access
  • NEW – To see and hold the actual Pistons, Rods, Crankshaft, and cylinder head for our $40,000 350hp engine.
  • Investing in the correct tools for your career
  • NHRA racing video of Steve Johnson winning at U.S. Nationals, tour the rig, see spare engines, computer station with data retrieval and real time weather station monitoring
  • Drag racing reaction timer with prizes

When the potential or existing students get to see and touch the actual pistons, rods, crank and cylinder head that we race with, as well as see the bike, get on the reaction timer, watch a video and listen to the racing seminar, their thoughts will really engage them in the entire package.

Lunch

  • In the past, many campuses and schools have provided a lunch for the students.  Besides the students having a free lunch, this really ties the entire event together and a great way to help the reps and schools bring in potential students, “Hey we will even feed you.” It was great for our team to hang out and have some food and just chill with the students.  Watching my guys talk with groups of students was a real sense of “being all in”. ROI at times can be a challenge, but when you see the eyes of high school students or any students for that matter talking in this kind of an environment to our team you just know the hook is being set on the importance of post secondary education.

Future events and Tools for the Reps and schools

  • I encourage us to have pictures taken of the entire event. This way, as we all move forward to increase enrollment and the total experience of the student, these pictures can be set in a web page for a future “Student Appreciation Day” as well as a tool for the reps, career counselors, support teams and schools to show the potential student why he/she needs to take the invite and come to the campus the day Steve Johnson Racing will be there.
  • Inviting local high schools to the event as well.
  • Working with the media for these events is a great way to promote your school and use the event to get free publicly.

There are typically quite a few questions after reading this outline. So, if this is of some interest, Lauren and I would like to talk on the phone with you about this presentation/campus visit ASAP.  Please feel free to give us a call at the shop at 205-956-4777.
